Dust Jacket

On January 26, 2010, I began what I hope will be a prolific year. The premise is simple: I pledged to write or focus on writing for at least 60 minutes every day for 365 days. I will write during the school year, modifying my practice in the classroom to allow for the time needed to draft and revise. I will write on the weekends, with the support of my wife and kids, removing myself from family life for an hour a day. I will write over the summer – even when we’re on a cruise – because if I don’t I will have failed myself.

In addition to writing, I will write about writing here, on this blog. The blog is intended to be a personal tool that I’ll use to vent my complaints, bounce around my ideas, and track my progress. The purpose is metacognition – thinking about thinking – and I’m opening it up to public because I need to become comfortable with having an audience, taking advice, and reacting to criticism.

The goal of the year is simple: write. I hope to begin (and complete) a novel, write a series of short stories and submit them for publication, and educate myself on the publishing industry. After one year, I will re-evaluate my position as a writer and begin the next step in the process. I have no idea what that step may be.
